Tragically, every year millions of stray, homeless, abandoned, lost, healthy, and adoptable animals are put down in shelters all across the U.S. In an effort to curb this sad and unfortunate situation, there is an important piece of legislation up for a vote in Massachusetts-Senate Bill 778-called the Massachusetts Spay and Neuter Fund-which would add a voluntary donation check-box on state tax returns to make funds available for low income residents so they can spay/neuter and vaccinate their pets at a very inexpensive cost. This also includes feral cats who wander around neighborhoods. This action has been extremely successful in other states like New Hampshire where euthanasia rates have dropped a whopping 77% in only 6 years and in Colorado where 21,000 spay/neuter surgeries have taken place as a result of this over the past 4 years. Currently, 26 others states have adopted similar programs.

Click here to read more about this helpful program and to sign a petition to urge Massachusetts lawmakers to vote for this piece of legislation and to urge other states to get on board with a similar programs. The animals need it.
