Red Alert

It is so unjust when humans do animals wrong, especially when the humans purport themselves to be helpers, and specifically rescuers. And this is just the unfortunate situation occurring in Honduras right now.

The Roatan Rescue on the island of Roatan in Honduras is facing a crisis. It’s owner abruptly left the rescue, abandoning over 500 dogs, cats, horses, and more, literally starving and suffering on the property. Thankfully, some were re-homed, but there are 150 dogs that are still displaced and looking for homes.

That is where Rescue for the Rescue, a group of volunteers sponsored by Graziela Kaufman of Graziela Gems and VP of Chicago-based rescue organization MCP Rescue, stepped in to try to save the lives of these animals and have been working tirelessly doing so.

But there is a major problem. All of the remaining animals must be rescued with offers of fostering or adoption by the end of March, or else the rescue will be shut down and the dogs will be left to fend for themselves on the streets of Roatan. That is less than 2 weeks from now. And it is a huge predicament that can only be solved if people who care can come together to help save them.

Just to give you an idea of what is needed, here is a breakdown.

-To sponsor the transport of a dog back to Canada or the US: $500 per dog

-Assistance to transport the dogs back to the US and Canada

-Volunteers in the US and Canada to foster or adopt the dogs

**Please contact [email protected] if you can help place, adopt, foster, or transport the dogs.

And you can also follow the journey on Facebook here. Please share if you can.

This is a major undertaking, but one that can be done. I believe that. And while most of us don’t live close to these animals, they are still worthy of saving and living out their days in forever homes. So please click here to learn more about this and how you can help.
