The cause of Cure Batten continues to touch everyone who hears the story of the two beautiful Gray girls, Charlotte and Gwenyth. Back in March, both sisters were diagnosed with Batten Disease CLN6, a rare neurodegenerative disease that is currently fatal before those afflicted enter their teenage years.
But this hasn’t stopped the perseverance of their amazing parents, Kristen and Gordon Gray, from embarking on a journey to find a cure. And to that end, they have enlisted the help of those in the Hollywood community, including Jessica Alba, Mark Wahlberg and Gwyneth Paltrow to support the cause.
And just this past week, Jennifer Garner came on board to host an inspiring fundraising event at a beautiful private estate in Malibu. The soiree raised over $200,000 for Cure Batten, through ticket sales and both a traditional and a silent auction. The National and Young the Giant both performed to a crowd which included Molly Sims, Scott Stuber and Brooke Burns.
Garner said at the event, “LA is a place where people want to make things happen.” She continued, “There is hope. There is an optimism to this fundraising. We could find a cure to save these two little girls and other kids suffering from Batten disease. And we could find a new way to treat these rare, genetic, orphan diseases. This is a strong step and it is a step forward for medicine.”
