FOSTERING A PET DURING THE CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK

The times were are living in are so unpredictable and unsettling. And now we are dealing with a pandemic, the Coronavirus, that our world has never seen before. And it’s scary AF.

In fact, we aren’t sure what will happen with this virus, but many of us have opted to practice social distancing and to self-quarantine at home. But that doesn’t mean we have to be lonely! Now is a great time to foster a pet.

The Centers for Disease Control, the World Health Organization, and the American Veterinary Medical Association have all stated that pets are not at risk of spreading COVID-19, and science has shown that adding an animal to your life makes your happier and healthier.

Because of the Coronavirus,  there have been fewer adoptions since people are staying home and not visiting animal shelters. There has also been an uptick of intakes, creating less space to take in animals. This results in shelters closing and euthanizing for space. Fostering saves lives.

You can find out how you foster a pet by clicking here. And you can always keep current on the latest Coronavirus news on the CDC’s website and the WHO’s website, as it changes almost hourly and this post might not be up-to-date at some point.

And in order to keep your pet healthy, it is recommended to have a month’s supply of food on hand, to thoroughly clean pet supplies (bowls, leashes, beds), and to wash your hands before and after you touch your pet.
