As if there weren’t enough calorie-laden foods to worry about! Sadly, alcohol should be added to the list. The average serving of one ounce of 80-proof alcohol contains about 90 calories, and that’s not even counting the mixer! Instead of focusing on what is enjoyable to drink, which is basically everything, lets weigh in on some popular alcoholic beverages and what to substitute them for to make them less caloric. It is bikini-season after all!
1. Long Island Ice Tea. You know that with all the vodka, tequila, rum, gin and triple sec the calorie count can’t be good. The average long island contains 780 calories! By just exchanging the rum for a diet coke with a slice of lime it will save you around 500 calories!
2. The margarita, one of my absolute faves. It’s next to impossible to drink one margarita. But one has up to 740 calories! I’m from Texas and it’s a necessity to sip a margarita with my Mexican food. But by substituting a full-on margarita for tequila on the rocks with a splash of lime, it will save some extra time on the treadmill.
3. And lastly, a highly caloric drink to stay away from is a pina colada, although they are nice while lounging on the beach. Pina coladas add up to being a whopping 644 calories! Next time, instead of splurging on a PC, try a vanilla flavored vodka with diet coke. It has the same sweetness but won’t hurt the waistline! What is your favorite high calorie cocktail?
