This past Wednesday night stars from the silver and small screen and the musical stage gathered at LA’s Nokia Theater to recognize the accomplishments bestowed upon their colleagues by the voting public-an event better known as the People’s Choice Awards. Seen as the official kick off to the highly touted awards season in Hollywood, the PCA’s gave an interesting look at possible fashion trends that will make their way down upcoming red carpets this awards season.
And the hottest trend of the night by far: short cocktail dresses! There was hardly a floor length gown in site last night as starlets like Malin Akerman, Emma Roberts, Kate Walsh, AnnaLynne McCord, Minka Kelly, and Selena Gomez (who donned a flowing, flowered crepe gown for her performance) all opted for above the knee frocks. Love!

Also a big trend was sparkle, perhaps carried over from all of the holiday cheer. Several ladies swathed themselves in sequins and beading including-Kristen Stewart, Kim and Kourtney Kardashian, Katy Perry, and Lisa Edelstein. Even Jane Lynch got into the spirit with a hint of glitz on her dark blazer.

As far as beauty goes, 3 big styles dominated the PCA red carpet: bold lips (favored by Kaley Cuoco, Perry, Taylor Swift, and Tiffany Hines), easy up-do’s which looked amazing with the shorter length dresses (McCord, Kim Kardashian, Pippa Black, and Virgina Williams) and (holy smokes!) smoldering, smoky eyes particularly evident on Joanna Garcia, Raven-Symone, and Leighton Meester.
