This week, a German Shepherd with special needs has taken the World Wide Web by storm. Quasi (short for Quasimodo), suffers from a rare disease called short spine syndrome which causes a hunchback appearance from missing spine and vertebrae. His head and legs are of typical size. Currently, there only only thirteen known cases in the world of dogs that suffer from this condition. But that hasn’t stopped Quasi from becoming an Internet sensation, garnering over 40,000 likes on Facebook.
He was originally found as a stray wandering the streets of rural Kentucky. He was quickly rescued by Secondhand Hounds in Minnesota, where he is receiving appropriate medical treatment and is currently being evaluated for adoption. Needless to say, he has potential adopters from all four corners of the country and across the globe wanting to take him home. And can you blame them?
And this wonderful rescue group has over 200 dogs (some special needs) looking for forever homes. As the mom of a special needs pup who almost lost his life after being overlooked time and time again at an overcrowded shelter, I can say that he is just as amazing and wonderful as my other dogs. And the same goes for Quasi. He is expected to live a normal, healthy life, and will be just as playful and happy as his canine cohorts. So please consider opening your heart and home to a special needs pet. They are so worth it! Would you adopt a special needs pet? Comment below!
