RED CARPET ROXY’S “RED ALERT” OF THE WEEK-WEHO WILL BE FUR FREE

The City of West Hollywood just might be the most animal-loving city in the country, if not the world. Last Monday night, the WeHo City Council voted (5-0) to ban the sale of fur apparel within this area, based on the cruel and inhumane ways animals are slaughtered for their fur.

Councilman John D’Amico said this piece of legislation was about the “impacts we have on the world. This is really an opportunity for our city to lead in a very specific and thoughtful way.” The ban doesn’t apply to fur embellished furniture, nor vintage fashion pieces that have fur on them because the animal wasn’t newly killed for the item. D’Amico would like to see the changes go into effect by June 30, 2012, but no official date has been set yet. What do you think? Are you in favor of the ban? Would you like to see it spread to other cities? Feel free to comment below.
