So you are cleaning out your closet, and you come across that pair of gladiator sandals, wedge boots, or cross trainers that you never really wore and can’t see yourself wearing again. What to do with them? You can send them to the “Shoes for Spays” program by ZAPP (Zero Additional Population Project) which provides spay and neuter surgeries to the thousands of dogs living on the streets in San Felipe, Baja, California, who otherwise would very likely be destroyed. Your gently worn shoes are sold on their Ebay site and the profits are used to give these “throw away” dogs these surgeries in order to put an end to their over population and to prevent the frequent deadly round-ups in which the local animal control officials conduct mass euthanizations to get them off the streets. The goal of the program in 2011 is to conduct 200 sterilization surgeries a month or 2400 for the year.
