Just this past Friday, California Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill that prohibits the sale, trade, and possession of shark fins. Hopefully, this will help the decreasing population of sharks. Said Governor Brown, “”The practice of cutting the fins off of living sharks and dumping them back in the ocean is not only cruel, but it harms the health of our oceans.” He continued,” In the interest of future generations, I have signed this bill.”

It is estimated that 73 million sharks are slaughtered each year for their fins. The ban will go into effect January 1, 2012. Do you agree with this piece of legislation?
