Senior pets often get overlooked at shelters and and many do not make it out alive. But, older animals can be the perfect companion for several reasons. First, they can be more content being with themselves, as opposed to a younger pet who needs more exercise and attention. They can require less frequent periods of exercise, which leaves more time to hang out together on the couch, cuddling. And generally, they require less training, as they have already been housebroken.
As a Mom of a senior dog, I can say that my girl is calm, eager to please, and is on my time schedule. She is just happy to be with me!
The great thing is that there are many shelters and rescue groups that help to get senior pets adopted. Click here for a full list. And just remember, senior animals make amazing pets!
