Many of you are unaware (as was I until recently) of how the Los Angeles County Animal Shelters (and other shelters across North America as well as several veterinary offices) dispose of euthanized animals. They are picked up by a waste disposal service and are hauled off to a rendering plant where their remains are processed into 4D meat, soap, cosmetics, fertilizers, lubricants, pharmaceuticals, gelatin, polish, agricultural feed, as well as other products. Several studies have raised questions as to the safety of these plants and the rendering process itself, as many of the by products get re-introduced into the human & animal food chain via dairy cows and livestock, as well as other ways.
“When you read pet-food labels and it says meat or bone meal, that’s what it is–cooked and converted animals, including some dogs and cats,” said Eileen Layne, of the California Veterinary Medical Association.
According to this article, here are some of the toxic waste products that are often found mixed with these animal by products:
a.. Pesticides via poisoned livestock
b.. Euthanasia drugs that were given to pets
c.. Some dead animals have flea collars containing organophosphate insecticides
d.. Fish oil laced with bootleg DDT
e.. Insecticide Dursban in the form of cattle insecticide patch
f.. Other chemicals leaked from antibiotics in livestock
g.. Heavy metals from pet ID tag, surgical pins and needles
h.. Plastic from:
a.. Styrofoam trays from packed unsold supermarket meats, chicken and fish
b.. Cattle ID tags
c.. Plastic insecticide patches
d.. Green plastic bags containing dead pets from veterinarians
Is this something you want to put on your face or ingest into your body?
It is also interesting to think about celebrities who make a stand against animal cruelty. Do they know that many of their cosmetics that they use on set and in their daily routine are made with these materials? Is this part of the reason why mass euthanizations occur at American shelters to keep up with the demands for this raw material? Is it really “safe” to ingest and put these substances on our bodies? We should really take a look at why this relationship exists. This is an eye-opener and I will be investigating this issue further. Stay tuned…..
