As of November 2008, California voters elected to put an end to battery cages for egg laying hens and to give them enough room in their cages to spread their wings and turn around. The California Legislature has just sent Assembly Bill 1437 to Governor Schwarzenegger, requiring all whole eggs sold in California meet this standard. In order to push this legislation through, the Humane Society is asking that people call Gov. Schwarzenegger’s office in order to voice their opinions on the matter. Here is the script they recommend:
“Hello, my name is [your name] and I am calling from [your town] to urge Governor Schwarzenegger to sign A.B. 1437 to protect California consumers and improve animal welfare. Thank you.”
You can call the Governor’s office Monday-Friday from 9-5 PM PST at (916) 445-2841.
