Sadly, with all of the recent destruction in Haiti, people continue to be affected by the devastation. And as with any large scale tragedy like this, animals are also hurt and in need of aid. Right now, the Humane Society International is working with several local groups to provide the necessary supplies and help to the animals in Haiti. They are also sending in vets specifically trained in disaster response and working globally with other animal organizations like the World Society for the Protection of Animals to try to ensure swift action. Unfortunately, there were no animal welfare groups, animals shelters, or veterinary schools established in Haiti before the earthquake, so it does make action more difficult.
