Bravo WeHo! Just last week, the animal loving city of West Hollywood banned the sale of dogs and cats from pet stores, in an effort to halt the sale of puppy & kitty mill animals. And this isn’t the first sign of animal love the resident of the city have shown. In 2003, they became the first city to outlaw cat declawing, and they also recognize pets as “companion animals” and they give their owners or “guardians” as they are referred to, a tax deduction for pet adoption. In fact, the sponsor of the legislation Michael Haibach-deputy to WeHo Councilman Jeffrey Prang– enforced, “animal companions as individual beings, not as commercial goods.” Couldn’t agree more! The great thing about the new pet store city ordinance is that come September when it is enacted, pet stores will be able to sell animals from shelters. How cool is that? And since this ordinance was passed, cities across the nation as well as in Europe have inquired to see how they can pass the same law in their locality. Loves it! Now if every breeder would stop breeding animals and turn into a rescuer, that would be the icing on the cake!
