I am very pleased to report that in the spirit of the holidays, RedCarpetRoxy.com has decided to foster Olare, an orphaned elephant calf at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya. I have previously reported on the rampant problem of elephant poaching in Kenya which is done to obtain the elephants ivory tusks for sale to countries like China and Japan. In fact, the African government has made the sale of ivory legal in this area after 10 years, and the rate of elephants being poached is up 45% from last year. And sadly, many elephants calves watch as their mothers are cruelly slaughtered by snares, devastating memories that they aren’t able to forget. However, organizations like the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust aim to protect these orphaned elephants by taking them in and teaching them essential survival skills for their re-integration into the wild. Stay tuned to the Red Alert of the Week for updates on Olare and how she is progressing.
