Baltimore Mayor, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, has set an example for other cities to follow. She enacted legislation that created the Anti-Animal Abuse Advisory Commission, which will prosecute animal abusers and those guilty of perpetrating dog fighting.
The first of its kind, the commission was originally for med as a task force in 2009 in response to the fatal burning of a dog named Phoenix. It is hoped that other cities will follow the lead of Baltimore.
“Animal cruelty is more than just a legal issue; it’s a community issue,” said Mayor Rawlings-Blake. “If you improve animal welfare in a community, you improve public safety for everyone.”
Hopefully, other cities are soon to follow.
