You might have not heard of a lobo (an endangered species of Mexican wolf that lives in the Southwest), but know that there are currently only 52 remaining in the wild. They have been trapped, shot, and poisoned causing their numbers to dwindle to this extremely low number. According to the Defenders of Wildlife, of these last few wolves, there are only 4 breeding pairs left and one of the pairs (a male & a female) have both lost legs to human traps or gunshot wounds and are targeted by state officials for removal from the wild. If things don’t change, this could mark a second extinction from the wild as they were almost completely wiped out in the last century before they were listed and protected by the Endangered Species Act. Now, they are again in danger of extinction.
