Currently, Senate Bill 917 is sitting on Calif Governor Jerry Brown’s desk awaiting his approval. The bill would stiffen the penalty for animal neglect (up to 1 year in jail per act), as well as ban the sale of animals on roadsides and in parking lots as this isn’t regulated. Most of the animals sold this way aren’t fixed, thereby, contributing to the pet overpopulation problem. Also, these animals are often not taken care of properly and can be very sick.
Last year, a similar bill made its way to the desk of then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who vetoed it. Click here to take action and let Governor Brown know how you feel about this issue.
