October is Adopt A Shelter Dog month, so what better way to celebrate than to adopt a shelter pup? I am a proud rescue mom of four former shelter dogs, and I can honestly say that they bring me so much happiness and joy. They are furry little angels, even when they are naughty! And by adopting or fostering one of these homeless animals, you are truly saving a life. Thousands of healthy, adoptable animals in shelters across the US are put to sleep everyday. The shelters are extremely overcrowded and cannot hold that many animals at one time. As a result, “owner surrendered” pets are usually the first ones to get euthanized.
And if you are breed particular, all you have to do is go to Petfinder.com, Adoptapet.com or the ASPCA website to locate a reputable breed specific rescue group in your area. If you find a pet that you love who happens to be out of your area, always ask the shelter or rescue group about possible pet transportation to your area.
