In honor of President Obama’s Inauguration today, the red alert is dedicated to one of the most important and threatened symbols of the United States of America, the bald eagle.

These majestic creatures face a variety of issues habitat loss, illegal shootings, lead poisoning and collisions with power lines. And the Defenders of Wildlife are working to protect bald eagle habitats, and to educate landowners on how they can be mindful of their impact of the animals. Also, this organization seeks to ensure that bald eagles remain protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
