My favorite holiday, the Fourth of July, is just a few days away! And, no doubt, there will be much merrymaking with all of the backyard barbeques, pool parties, family gatherings and fireworks displays. But this is also a very dangerous time for pets. Here are some practical tips to keep your furry friends safe during all of the revelry.
Animals can get easily spooked by the sounds of loud fireworks and parades and their initial reaction is to flee. Sadly, that means that any pets get lost and eventually end up in animal shelters. The best way to avoid this is to keep your pets indoors during all of this time of this noisy commotion, so that they are safe and are less likely to get lost. And make sure they are micro-chipped and have collars on with current contact info. Also, it is important to keep pets out of the heat and never in parked cars during the warmer months. Not only do temperatures soar during the day, but they also reach well above 100 degrees inside of a hot car. That can kill an animal within minutes. Be sure to take pets with you, or leave them at home where they will be comfortable. And if you see that your dog is distressed or over-heated, take them to the vet immediately. Hopefully, you have a safe and happy Fourth of July, pets and all!
