If you live or will be in the LA area this weekend, mark your calendars. Because May 1-2 is the NKLA Spring Pet Adoption event at the La Brea Tar Pits (5801 Wilshire Blvd.) from 10AM-6PM each day. Hundreds of homeless cats, dogs and other animals will be up for adoption, looking for their forever homes.
NKLA (No-Kill Los Angeles) is a wonderful animal welfare organization led by Best Friends Animal Society. The mission of NKLA is to end the killing of dogs and cats throughout the LA city shelter system by the year 2017. Just last year, 47,900 animals entered the LA city shelter system, and 12,700 of them died in the shelters. The group plans to stop these killings by providing spay and neuter services to animals across the city, as well as to get animals out of the shelter system by adopting them into new homes. A simple but straight forward approach to saving as many animals’ lives as possible.
