Just this morning, NBC officially confirmed the cancellation of The Jay Leno Show which airs at 10 PM (eastern)/9 PM (Central). Jeff Gaspin, NBC Universal TV Entertainment chairman stated, “While performing at acceptable levels for the network, it did not meet our affiliate needs. We realized we had to make a change. My goal is to keep Jay, Conan and Jimmy as part of the late night lineup.” The final Jay Leno Show will air on Friday, February 12th. And what would Gaspin like to see happen? He is hoping that ratings will go up as he has offered the 11:35 PM-12:05 AM spot to Jay, followed by Conan at 12:05 AM, and then Jimmy Fallon at 1:05 AM. It is still not known what will happen with Conan as he is still in talks with NBC and reportedly other networks, but it is believed that Leno has already accepted and signed on to the change in programming. NBC is pressing for resolution by the time the Olympics start. And what will fill Jay’s current spot after February 12th? Look for scripted shows, repeats, a reality show, and an expanded Dateline NBC. Wait and see!
