Sadly, another victim has been claimed as a result of the poor economy. British label Luella, designed by Luella Bartley, has lost its primary investor VSQ Limited who has “taken the decision not to invest further in its relationship with Luella Bartley Limited” as reported by Fashion Week Daily. Club 21, owned by VSQ Limited, will also not be continuing its global licensing agreement that it has had with the label since 2003. Bartlett released a statement in which she laments the situation by saying, “This is a very disappointing situation for everyone involved with the brand. I very much appreciate the support that VSQ has given me, but it is upsetting not to be able to protect jobs in this difficult economic climate. I love the Luella character and hope that after we have survived this challenging time the Luella girl can have an exciting future ahead of her, whichever incarnation she takes on next. We have a number of options open to us, and are considering these over the coming months.” At this time it is not known if Luella will show Fall 2010 in London in February. Hopefully, a new investor will be found to rescue this company out of the abyss.
