Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio is hosting his star-studded Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation Annual Gala to fund Climate and Biodiversity Projects on July 20th on the French Riviera. Kate Hudson, Charlize Theron, Cate Blanchett, Penelope Cruz, Robert DeNiro, and Scarlett Johansson are some of the celebrities expected to attend the glitzy and glamorous event in St. Tropez.
DiCaprio is on the boards of two eco-pressure groups and his foundation is pledging more than 12 million to green projects at the World Economic Forum. It is a cause he is very involved in and wants to bring as much awareness as he can to this world issue.
But flying his guests, who are mostly based in Los Angeles, across the world over 10,000 miles to attend? Each person will release seven tons of CO2 to get there, if they travel by commercial airliner. If they are transported by private jet, that number goes up to over 80 tons. Is that eco-friendly?
