This was an amazing day for all of those who love to help animals. Katherine Heigl, along with her mother Nancy and The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation came together for a huge press conference to announce the Compassion Revolution. It will set a precedent for groups and individuals to come together in the name of helping animals in the Los Angeles area.

This sweeping movement addresses the pet over population epidemic with no cost spay/neuter programs and the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation has pledged $1 million towards this.

Also, there will be a special Pit Bull and American Staffordshire Spay/Neuter program called “The Apollo Initiative,” named after the Heigl’s beloved pittie. He is so cute and such a handful! But full of love. Here there will be a “no questions asked” policy in regards to spaying, neutering, micro chipping, and vaccinating these breeds of dogs in designated zip codes.

In addition, the Foundation pledged another $50,000 to training and education programs and their Learn to be a Best Friend Program. This program provides proper pet care & obedience training to the public. People will be able to register for this at city & county shelters around Los Angeles and the Millan Foundation will donate 1 hour of a class to each registrar.

Today, as part of the Compassion Revolution, the Foundation presented a $25,000 dollar check to Councilman Tony Cardenas from District 6 in the San Fernando Valley in order to improve the conditions for the animals at the East Valley Animal Shelter in LA.

The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation will continue to aid in the transport of animals from L.A. City shelters to rescue organizations and no-kill shelters across the United States. The Foundation has already rescued and transported over 4,000 animals and will press on with this.

And the Compassion Revolution will continue to promote shelter pet adoptions and discourage the purchase of pets from pet stores and puppy mills and and will continue to subsidize adoption fees through the LA City New Hope Program.
