Red Carpet Ready

There were some standouts on the Emmys red carpet when it came to beauty looks. And The Handmaid’s Tale and Sharp Objects star Sydney Sweeney had some of the prettiest locks out there. I got the full download from her celebrity hairstylist, Richard Collins, on how he created her feminine yet modern ‘do.

“We chose Sydney’s hair look to complement her dress, which was very modern and pretty. We aimed to create a classic up-do with a lot of texture and soft touches around the hairline. I started with wet hair and used Living Proof Blowout to dry her hair with my fingers only. This technique allows for as much fullness and natural volume as possible. (TIP: blow drying with fingers rather than a brush is my go-to styling technique to accentuate natural texture.) Once the hair was dry, I started at the nape of neck with a half inch curling iron and created what I call a contained beach wave or “dysfunctional wave.” Once the curls set, I ran through the curls with my fingers and used Living Proof Full Dry Volume Blast to create light texture and give the hair more hold.

Next, I made 3 sections in the hair, one in the back and two over the ears. The back section was loosely made into a loop, by starting what would be a ponytail and not pulling it through. Then I spread the loop out with my fingers for even more texture and secured the loop with two bobby pins. The right section of the hair was loosely pulled around the loop and pinned, followed by the left side. To secure the style, I sprayed the entire up-do with Living Proof Control Hairspray. I love this spray because it’s workable but still locks in the look! We wanted to create a soft hairline to complement the neckline of the dress, so I pulled out pieces of hair to frame the face. (TIP: to always getting the right amount of hair, pull out more than you need, and spray back whatever you don’t want!) I used Living Proof Amp Texture Volumizer to give the wispy pieces touchable structure and definition. Finally, I added four diamond bobby pins to the bun for extra sparkle.”

So will you try to get her look at home?
