CURRENT OBSESSION: NYAKIO EXFOLIATING ESSENTIALS

Exfoliating is essential when it comes to skin care. It sloughs off the dead cells, removes excess oil and bacteria, and keeps the skin looking fresh. And I used to think that I could only exfoliate once or twice a week at most, because several of the beauty products I used have been a little harsh on my skin. But I recently have found two new exfoliating products within the same line that are fast becoming favorites.

The line is called Nyakio, created by working mama, skin care expert, and business woman Nyakio Greico, and features sustainable, sulfate and paraben-free ingredients. And it’s cruelty-free. Greico went back to her own Kenyan roots, as well as to China, Mali, and Egypt to source the components in her handmade formulations.

“My beauty journey started when I was a young girl visiting my grandmother in Kenya,” said Nyakio. “She was a coffee farmer who taught me to crush coffee beans and rub them on my skin using a piece of sugarcane to remove dry skin.” She continued,”Inspired by everything that’s been shared with me, I’m now sharing the best in global skincare with every woman.”

I am loving the Chinese Rice Exfoliating Powder and the Kenyan Coffee Face Polish. And here is why. First, the Chinese Rice Exfoliating Powder is very mild, making it a great exfoliator for sensitive skin. As soon as I used it, my skin was silky smooth. The trick is to mix a small amount (dime size) of the product in your hand with water to create a paste. Then apply it onto the skin in a circular motion all along the face, avoiding the eye area. You can also add the powder to your regular facial cleanser too. It’s versatile in that way.

I am also a huge fan of Nyakio’s Kenya Coffee Face Polish too. If you like a facial scrub with a larger granule, then this is the product for you. It’s very effective, leaves skin very soft, and, for me, was gentle enough to use several times a week. A tip that I have learned along the way is to exfoliate in the mornings before you apply your makeup because creates for a more even surface.

So how much do they cost? Nyakio’s full line is readily available at ULTAand are all priced less than $50. Shop the Rice Powder here and the Coffee Face Polish here.
