Big news coming out of China today. The Chinese government has officially banned the hunting and trading of 420 types of animals which are on the endangered species list. It includes species such as giant pandas, golden monkeys, Asian black bears and pangolins. Shark fins and rhino horns are also included in this ban. If the law is violated, perpetrators could face 3-10 years in prison. Hallelujah!
As many of you probably know, China has long used products such as bear’s paw, turtle soup and rhino horn for medicinal purposes. But according to the Chinese parliament’s ruling, the hunting and trading of these animal-based materials used in these concoctions will be outlawed. China now sees these practices as a “global threat” after years and years of requests from the international community. This is an amazing step and I hope this signals lots of positive change for the way animals are viewed and treated in this region. How do you feel about this law?
