Last night at the Grand Palais in Paris, Karl Lagerfeld presented Chanel’s Couture Collection for Fall 2011, and what a show it was! The setting was a modern, sci-fi-esque replica of the Place Vendome, an interesting and effective backdrop for the romantic, vintage feel of the clothes.
The evening’s show began with a cluster of classic suits in shades of gray, blue, white, and black. Details included ornate buttons and peplums, which looked particularly striking in a magenta suit that followed.
Layered pieces were also popular, and Lagerfeld displayed jackets over dresses. And fish tail skirts were also shown, with most of the hemlines remaining on the longer side, a throw back to the days of CoCo.
And let’s not forget one of the main ingredients of the night-feathers!
As for beauty, models walked the runway with sheer pieces of black lace over their heavily lined eyes, a la GaGa. Hair was pinned back under varying shades of colored hats, which accompanied each and every look. To view the whole collection on the Elle.com site, click here.
And which Hollywood starlets were there? Alexa Chung, Milla Jovovich, Elle Fanning, and one of my fave fashionistas-Diane Kruger who looked every bit the glamourous movie star in a 2009 Chanel Couture piece complete with tail hem skirt. Gorgeous!
