It has been 8 years since Azzedine Alaia’s last runway show. So it should come as no surprise that his show in Paris this past week was attended by several fashion luminaries and style lovers including Donatella Versace, Carine Roitfield, Kanye West, Sofia Coppolla, and French Minister of Culture Frederic Mitterand. A true designer’s designer, Alaia has always been a visionary in his craft.
Valentino is a label that has always been a favorite of mine, as well as many a woman out there. And this collection doesn’t disappoint. Look at the beauty of these ethereal designs. One thing the Valentino label is known for is painstaking attention to detail.
As I sit here typing this while ogling over the Giorgio Armani PriveFall 2011 Couture Collection, I can’t help but hear that song “Big in Japan” by Alphaville playing over and over in my head. That’s because this collection is highly influenced by all things Japan-from the orgami-like folds in the clothes to thick belts that a geisha might wear.
Last night at the Grand Palais in Paris, Karl Lagerfeld presented Chanel’s Couture Collection for Fall 2011, and what a show it was! The setting was a modern, sci-fi-esque replica of the Place Vendome, an interesting and effective backdrop for the romantic, vintage feel of the clothes.
