In a landmark bill that is currently sitting on the desk of California Governor Jerry Brown, homeless pets may finally get a huge break.
Just this past Friday, California Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill that prohibits the sale, trade, and possession of shark fins. Hopefully, this will help the decreasing population of sharks. Said Governor Brown, “”The practice of cutting the fins off of living sharks and dumping them back in the ocean is not only cruel, but it harms the health of our oceans.” He continued,” In the interest of future generations, I have signed this bill.”
Currently, Senate Bill 917 is sitting on Calif Governor Jerry Brown’s desk awaiting his approval. The Bill would stiffen the penalty for animal neglect (up to 1 year in jail per act), as well as ban the sale of animals on roadsides and in parking lots as this isn’t regulated. Most of the animals sold this way aren’t fixed, thereby, contributing to the pet overpopulation problem. Also, these animals are often not taken care of properly and can be very sick.
