A cup o’ joe and maybe a pup? That is exactly what is available at The Dog Cafe, now open in Los Angeles. The first coffee shop of it’s kind in America, this innovative destination aims to not only serve great coffee, but also to help animals in need. The establishment intends to “revolutionize dog adoption by reinventing the way people connect with rescues.” Adoptable dogs from local shelters will be available to meet customers, aka potential adopters, to find their forever homes. So good.
This genius idea is the brainchild of Sarah Wolfgang, a Pennsylvania transplant who lived in South Korea for 16 years working with animals shelters and dogs. And she isn’t taking the adoption process lightly.
Wolfgang maintains, “The whole adoption process from start to finish can take up to 1 month. We understand to some that this may be a lengthy process, but to us it helps us ensure each dog that we place in a new home is going to their perfect forever home.” It includes the first meet-and-greet at the cafe, an interview and an adoption application. After the application is submitted, a home check is conducted when the dog is dropped off, and the family is given a couple of weeks to acclimate the dog to his or her new surroundings. If all goes well, then the adoption is finalized.
