The fashionable and the fabulous gathered last night deep in the heart of Texas (Dallas) for a special event honoring fashion designer Abi Ferrin and her select group of “Women of Purpose.” Party goers kicked off the evening’s festivities, while sipping Rose’s Mojito Mix Rainforest Recovery Cocktails, with a special introduction soiree at The Shak and then moved on to the “Women of Purpose” photo exhibit, which was accompanied by infallible personal sketches and Abi’s unique write ups for each participant, and captured by expert photographer Kent Barker where it was unveiled at the Janette Kennedy Gallery in South Side Lamar. I was very flattered and honored to be one of the 39 women chosen to be photographed for this project which highlights each and every one of us for supporting Abi’s bustling business and her mission to help oppressed women in impoverished regions of the world and empower them through job opportunities and education.
The night was very emotional for Abi as she tearfully thanked all of her special ladies for believing in her dreams, carrying her along the way, and also for the willingness to help others through their own charitable endeavors. Some of the other delightful honorees were on hand, including Next Food Network Star and celebrity chef Lisa Garza whose restaurant Suze catered the fete, Hard Night Good Morning skincare creator D’Andra Simmons, and stunning socialite and wife of one of the greatest NFL running backs of all time (#22 Emmitt Smith-I am from Dallas after all!) Pat Smith who brought along peppy pal Donna Joyner who left her husband, national radio host Tom Joyner, at home.
The exhibit will reside in the gallery until early September when it will travel to New York for Ferrin’s S/S 2010 show at Style360 during New York Fashion Week produced by A-List Communications and HFM Media. So if you get a chance, go check it out! It’s all about fashion, freedom, and fun.
