I journeyed back to my cowgirl roots this past weekend at the annual Stagecoach Festival in Indio, CA, showcasing some of the best country music around. And thanks to Budweiser, who was a sponsor of the festival, for hooking me up with passes for Saturday’s Keith Urban show which was fantastic! And there was plenty of Budweiser consumed at the festival-it goes hand in hand with country music. Also, I would like to give my friend, David Johndrow from Johndrow Vineyards a shout out for giving me tickets, backstage passes, and VIP admittance to Sunday’s Brooks & Dunn and Toby Keith performances. Mind you, I am a native Texan, but I have never seen so many prairie skirts, cowboy hats, and general western gear in one place in my entire life!
I have also never been to a country music festival before, but I can say that I was pleasantly surprised by both Brooks & Dunn and charismatic Toby Keith’s performances. As some of you might know, Brooks & Dunn are taking a break from singing together indefinitely, and last night performance was emotional for the guys as they somberly referred to their impending parting while crooning their country standards.
On the other end of the emotional spectrum was Toby Keith who sang about good times, laying with women, whiskey, and being drunk as his key themes. In fact, when I was chatting with Toby backstage, I asked him what it felt like to close out the Stagecoach Festival? His response: “I’m Big Dog Daddy!” And there you have it.
