Earlier today, Naomi Campbell was in court to testify after she received what are thought to be “blood diamonds” from Liberian dictator Charles Taylor back in 1997 when she was a guest at Nelson Mandela’s house in South Africa.
Blood diamonds are diamonds come out of war zone countries involved in killing and corruption.
Naomi recounted to the court about that fateful night, “When I was sleeping, I heard a knock on the door. Two men gave me a pouch and said ‘a gift to you.’ I opened it the following morning. I saw a few stones; they were very small dirty-looking stones.” All the while, she never referred to the stones as “diamonds” and conveyed to the court that it wasn’t unusual for her to be presented with gifts.
This isn’t Naomi’s first time on the stand or involved with the law. Here is her wrap sheet:
2008-She pleaded guilty to spitting, kicking and cursing at police at Heathrow Airport in London because her luggage was lost. Punishment-200 hours community service.
2007-She pleaded guilty to assault in NYC after chunking a cell phone at her maid when she couldn’t find a pair of Campbell’s jeans. Punishment-1 week of community service (as you will recall, she often showed up in designer gowns looking every bit the supermodel while cleaning up trash!)
2000-In Toronto, she pleaded guilty to beating up her then assistant, who also claimed Naomi hit her in the head with her mobile phone.
At least she looked stunning in court today wearing a gorgeous cream colored suit and hair pulled back in a bouffant bun with thick bangs and a few long, loose pieces in front. Once a supermodel always a supermodel!
