There is no doubt that Elton John’s annual Oscars bash was the place to be Sunday night. Fashionistas like Heidi Klum (wearing a silver Julien MacDonald dress) and a Halston draped Nicole Richie-with their respective husbands in tow-flocked to the Pacific Design Center soiree for an evening of fun while still giving back. The yearly event benefits The Elton John AIDS Foundation, and this year the entertainment was quite amazing.
Florence + The Machine, fresh from the Oscars ceremony, had the audience on their feet, singing along to their hit “Dog Days Are Over,” as well as other darling ditties. Lead singer Florence Welch floated and spun barefoot across the stage in a sheer, flowy, vintage-inspired gown. The high point of the concert came when Elton resumed the stage (as the crowd screamed and cheered) for a rousing duet of “Tiny Dancer.” It didn’t even matter that Welch flubbed a couple of lines in the song (clearly nerves-wouldn’t you be nervous if you were singing in the presence of rock n’ royalty?), as you could tell John was having a ball watching her perform.
To my left, Kim Kardashian, dressed in J. Mendel, remained seated during the performance (not sure how), and enjoyed the company of Spin Crowd’s Jonathan Cheban, Niche Media Founder Jason Binn, Desperate Housewives Kyle Maclachlan, Quincy Jones, and Kelly Osbourne. Meanwhile to my right, Claire Danes and hubby Hugh Dancy couldn’t get enough of the music and grooved for most of the show. Sharon Stone was also rocking out! And same goes for the Glee cast, including Jane Lynch, Chris Colfer, Jenna Ushkowitz, Dianna Agron, Matthew Morrison,
After the show, Jamie Foxx was accosted by a tipsy fan and rejected her advances (the same thing happened to Taye Diggs-who rolled his eyes and moved on), while Vanessa Hudgens, decked in a mini dress, happily glanced around the room as she busted out some serious dance moves on rumored BF Josh Hutcherson and bestie Ashley Tisdale.
Soon after, Steven Tyler crossed the dance floor with his lady friend Erin Brady and body guards in tow as Niecy Nash exclaimed “I love you, Steven!”, and Anne Heche and fiance James Tupper debated about going to the bar for another glass of vino. Singer Rufus Wainwright arrived with fashion designer Zaldy who was swathed in a black cape. CeeLo Green and Smokey Robinson joyfully posed in photos with another, as did Michael Stipe, Seal, and Chaka Khan.
Out on the patio, Emma Roberts (in Jenny Packham) held the attention of a slicked back hair Chace Crawford, and seemed slightly annoyed with a female fan asked her to take a picture of the admirer and Crawford. Hayden Panettiere chatted with friends by the outdoor bar with Extra’s Terry Seymour just a few feet away, and a gorgeous Malin Akerman snuggled for photos with her sweet hubby-showing off their his and hers tattoos. And last but certainly not least, a typically reclusive Prince made a rare public appearance at the party shortly before the festivities ended. Sporting a purple sequined jacket, no less. It’s good to know that some things never change. And that I was color-coordinated with Prince!
