Just this past week, I sat down to chat with singer Erika Jayne while she was rehearsing in LA for her performance at Pride in her home town of Atlanta this weekend. Dancing and singing to her new single “One Hot Pleasure,” she was full of sultry energy which is probably ten fold once she is on stage. If you aren’t already familiar with this blonde bombshell, you soon will be.
Already, this sexy songstress is being compared to Madonna (just read the Guardian U.K.) during her “Erotica” days and has collaborated with Prince protege, Sheila E. And working with the latter gave her “the shakes” as she has always looked up to the “Purple Rain” singer. This girl is equal parts, sex, sass, and sweetness. And why sweet, you may ask? After she performs her show in Atlanta, she plans on sticking around and taking care of her ailing grandmother. See what I mean?
She was quite candid with me about the direction in which she would like for her career to go. “I love what I do and (in 5 years) I would like for it to be everything that it is now, just on a larger scale.” And here are 5 more things that Erika wants you to know about her:
1. I’m fun. I like to have a good time!
2. I care a lot about the people I work with.
3. I like to push people’s buttons.
4. My biggest musical influences are Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Prince.
5. I am a Southern girl at heart.
Of course, I had to ask for all of you who might be curious about her “Relationship Status” and she giggled. “You can make time (to date).” When pressed further about if there is someone serious in her life, she coyly stated, “Maybe there is, maybe there isn’t.” But she does have a couple of celebrity crushes-namely Gerard Butler and Daniel Craig. The girl’s got good taste!
Check out her video for her hit song “I’m A Pretty Mess” which reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs Chart. She revealed to me is about “Women playing different roles (a princess, a temptress, a pretty mess) in order to get what they want.” Such a girls’ night out tune:
