Most of us take our freedom and families for granted-that is-until they are taken away. That is exactly what happened to journalist Euna Lee who, along with fellow reporter Laura Ling, were reporting a story about human trafficking in China when they crossed into North Korea and were arrested for “hostile acts.” They were eventually pardoned after 5 months in a North Korean jail by Dictator Kim Jong-Il after former President Bill Clinton traveled to the country to negotiate their release.
So what was the biggest lesson she learned throughout that harrowing experience? “My family becomes my priority.”
Not full time back in the field, Lee wants to refocus, go back to school, and report on the public school system.
