It was just announced today that 44 year old Belgian designer, Raf Simons, would be stepping into the shoes of John Galliano by taking over as Artistic Director of Christian Dior.
As you may recall, Galliano was fired from his position last year after going on a booze-fueled anti-Semitic rant in early 2011, which was filmed and put on the internet. After much backlash from many, including Dior brand ambassador and Jewish actress Natalie Portman, he was let go.
Raf will be presenting his first Haute Couture collection for the luxury label in July 2012. Said Raf about his new position,”It is with the utmost respect for its tremendous history, its unparalleled knowledge and craftsmanship that I am joining the magnificent house of Dior.” He most recently served as the Creative Director of Jil Sander and he also runs a menswear line from his studio in Antwerp. Do you think he will be able to fill the void left by Galliano at Dior?

We will see how he does. He has very big shoes to fill.
I miss Galliano!
I think he will do well. He wasn’t my first choice, but I think he will be good
