As Congress continues to slash budgets on its many government programs, it is important to remember that wildlife protections need to remain in place in order to protect many endangered species and habitats from extinction. Currently on the table for budget cuts: protections for polar bears and other endangered species, sea turtle habitats, and the already underfunded National Wildlife Refuge System.

Just this past week in Ohio, around 50 rare and exotic animals including bears, lions, wolves, and the almost extinct Bengal tigers (approximately 2,000 left in the wild) were let loose from their cages by their suicidal owner and shot to death by authorities.

RED CARPET ROXY’S “RED ALERT” OF THE WEEK-PHNOM TAMAO WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

There is a special place for animals in Cambodia. Phnom Tamao Wildlife Sanctuary, an animal sanctuary that takes in animals of all shapes and sizes, including bears, elephants, large cats, and other wild creatures. Many of these animals have been confiscated from the illegal animal trade in Cambodia, a poor nation with a rich exotic animal population. Still some of them have been orphaned by poachers, and there is even an elephant, thought to have been a victim of a snare, with a foot prosthesis-the first in the world.
