It certainly looks like that scenario might play out. According to WWD, Marc Jacobs is in “serious talks” to take over Christian Dior’s Creative Director position, last held by John Galliano.
And Chairman Bernard Arnault didn’t have to look very far to find his number once choice, as his company, LVMH, owns Marc Jacobs International and he is also Chairman of Dior. If this switch up were to happen, Jacobs would leave his post as creative head of Louis Vuitton, which would most likely be filled by Phoebe Philo, the head of French brand, Celine. Talks are scheduled in Paris this week, even though Marc is currently in NYC prepping for his Spring 2012 fashion show, only a couple of weeks away. He will have his legal reps in attendance at the meetings in France.
So far executives have approached Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz, Balenciaga’s Nicolas Ghesquière, Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton, Haider Ackermann and Hedi Slimane, in the hopes of finding a successor to Galliano. But it looks like with these new revelations, Jacobs might be the front runner. We will see what happens. Would you like to see Marc Jacobs as the head designer behind Dior?
