Just this past week I attended the LA premiere of Hitchcock, which portrayed the life of the Master of Suspense, Alfred Hitchcock. A brilliant Anthony Hopkins plays the man responsible for thrillers like Dial M for Murder, North By Northwest, The Birds and Psycho. In fact, this biographic film highlighted the portion of his life during the time that Psycho was made.
Toni Collette, Helen Mirren and Jessica Biel
Helen Mirren stars as Alma, his long-suffering wife and business partner. Rounding out the cast is Jessica Biel, Toni Collette and Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh. And Leigh’s daughter, Jamie Lee Curtis, watched intently from the audience as Johansson did a fantastic job of portraying her mother who seemed quite genuine and unaffected. Sacha Gervasi (The Terminal) directed the biopic, and I have to say, the acting was superb. Particularly from Hopkins and Mirren who will, no doubt, be Oscar contenders. This film is definitely a must see!

Once the film was over, we headed to the after party, also at AMPAS Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, where the stars mingled with party-goers. Biel, sans JT, changed out of her long, black, backless Gucci gown that she sported earlier on the red carpet into a shorter, more structured white Michael Kors mini dress for the soiree. Ever so gracious, she stood patiently while one couple emphasized to the starlet that, “We were fans of your husband’s before you knew him.” To which she seemed less than interested. Can’t say I blame her!

Mirren looked beautiful, as per usual, wearing a sexy black lace number. Her adoring hubby director Taylor Hackford (Ray) was never far from her side. Collette provided the perfect pop of color in a red one-shouldered cocktail dress, and happily greeted guests who enjoyed the martini bar, complete with an assortment of olives to choose from. And I found my new fave Malbec, Gran Altura, which I will be enjoying this holiday season! Hitchcock opens January 10, 2013.
