Friday night was amazing! 3 reasons: 1. it was the start of my favorite holiday weekend 2. I had a delicious dinner at Nobu 3. Jane’s Addiction played an incredible private show at The Roxy! 3 of the original members-Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins-plus one new addition, Duff McKagan from Guns n’ Roses and Velvet Revolver on bass, made for an incredible performance. I love all 4 of these guys together-they have great chemistry. And I am not just saying that because I am a huge Jane’s fan, I mean it was on! The energy in the room was palpable because the guys from the band were just as enamored with playing live and to the crowd as the audience was with them.
“Been Caught Stealing”:
A few times Perry, who was all smiles as he took swigs from his wine bottle and couldn’t have been enjoying the evening more, would position the microphone towards the audience who sang every word to the classics like “Three Days” and “Been Caught Stealing” while drummer Stephen Perkins, who hasn’t lost his touch, delivered a serious beat down during the former.
“Three Days”:
In fact, Farrell was so enthralled that after a particularly audience-gratifying rendition of “Mountain Song,” he declared”You know how much I lover hearing that s*&$? I like the song too, but I am talking about you screaming at me. I start to sway and swagger like I’m Kobe Bryant just hitting a f*#$%@’ 3 pointer at the end of a game!”
“Mountain Song”:
As usual, guitarist Dave Navarro tore up his six string while looking uber pissed off, which only adds to his rock star aura. And McKagan seemed to fit in effortlessly, a few times assuming Farrell’s perch on top of the one of the front speakers surveying the massive sing along going on below him.
Everyone in attendance was rocking out, including Smashing Pumpkins lead singer Billy Corgan as well as Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine. “Jane Says” tied up the evening quite nicely, with Perry proclaiming afterward, “Tonight felt like the good old days.” And that it did!
