The first US St. Patty’s Day was celebrated in Boston on March 18, 1737.
Chicago dyes it’s river green on St. Patty’s Day and has done so since 1962.
Legend has it that St. Patrick used the 3 leaved shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to people in Ireland.
Originally, the color surrounding St. Patrick was blue, but slowly morphed into green, probably because of symbols like the green shamrock.
St. Patrick’s Day became an official holiday in Ireland in 1903.
The Irish guards in Great Britain wear special shamrocks flown in from Ireland on St. Patty’s Day.
In Buenos Aires, Argentina, there is a huge St. Patty’s celebration in the streets of downtown where there is a high concentration of Irish bars.
