Costume designer and stylist B. Akerlund celebrated the opening of her new creative design space, The Residency at WhoYouAre, in the heart of Hollywood this week. Along with the preview of this amazing creative space, B. also launched the corresponding app and website called WhoYouAre, a social media platform for emerging fashion talent and featured designers to come together and support one another, as well as sell their designs in the marketplace.
Akerlund has designed intricate and one-of-a-kind costumes for the biggest names in music, including Madonna, Lady Gaga and Beyonce. So it’s no surprise that some of her sartorial starlet friends showed up to enjoy this fun event. It was also B.’s birthday, so Rose McGowan serenaded the birthday girl with a sultry rendition of “Happy Birthday.” All I can say is Rose has some serious pipes, and the crowd listened in awe of her voice.
Fergie sat on the other side of Akerlund and enjoyed posing for pictures with Rose. When chatting with the Black Eyed Peas singer, she mentioned that she got ready fast for the night’s festivities, throwing on a bold red lip and her hair in a deep side part before heading out the door. Loved her look! And Malin Akerman, decked in a chic pantsuit, acknowledged that she had to step up her style game because she was going to be in the presence of B. Meanwhile, style expert George Kotsiopoulos chatted up Icona Pop singer Caroline Hjelt.
And you couldn’t help but marvel at Akerlund’s designs. Truly works of art.
