CAYMAN FASHION SOLSTICE HOSTED BY SELITA EBANKS

What do you get when you mix sand, sun, fun, fashion, and Selita Ebanks? Well, you get Cayman Fashion Solstice, of course. Grand Cayman’s first and hopefully annual Fashion Week kicked off this past weekend with the Victoria’s Secret model as its down home and sexy host. Designers such as New York based Indashio, Project Runway alum Korto Momolu, LaQuan Smith, Caymanian designer Crown Atelier by Tigerlily Hill, Trinidad’s top designer Claudia Pegus, Trefle Designs, Brazilian swimwear from Gabz & Gabz, Roger Gary, Simon Duncan (whose debut collection hit the runway at Bryant Park in 2003), and menswear fashion house Man vs. Machine all made their way to the luxurious island for the fashionable festivities. British Virgin Islands native Iyaz also was a part of the fun as he got the audience pumped up with his Billboard Top 100 hit; “Solo,” during the short intermission which paved the runway for more fabulous fashion.

The event took place at the Ritz-Carlton, which has impeccable service and an even more amazing Silver Rain La Prarie Spa. Selita revealed to me that the Ritz-Carlton “is like a second home” and she heads to the spa to “detox and relax.” Complete pampering from head to toe-I highly recommend the Resurfacing Facial. My skin still feels as soft as a baby’s bottom 5 days later! And while at the Ritz, be sure to check out Blue by Eric Ripert-the only 5 diamond dining experience in all of the Caribbean.

Now, on to the clothes. The extremely talented designers showcased their Spring 2011 collections. My top 5 favorite looks were:

Korto Momolu’s white party dress. On many of Korto’s pieces, she threw the necklines off, which made them stand out:

And from STYLE360 designer Indashio, I love the soft color palette mixed with prints and one shoulder silhouette of this summery cocktail dress:

For a new twist on the little black dress, Simon Duncan presented their take which was edgy and would be perfect for a night out:

And I love the shape, short tiered skirt, and deep neckline on this fun piece from Crown Atelier by Tigerlily Hill:

Finally, La Quan Smith (who has designed for Lady Gaga and Rihanna) showed this daring skirt and top for those willing to show some leg:

Besides fashion, there were many other fun things to do on Grand Cayman. Unfortunately, due to Hurricane Tomas, all of the boating activities were wiped out during my stay. But, Sting Ray City (often touted as the most popular sight seeing destination on the island) is a place you can go to actually swim with sting rays. Another interesting destination that I found interesting was the memorial to The Wreck of the 10 Sails which marks the location where 10 boats crashed into the reef. Just so you know, you can actually wade out quite a long distance in the ocean because the reef surrounds the island which keeps the water quite shallow. If shopping is what you are into, head over to Camana Bay where you can peruse the racks at NKY Collections. You will see the latest must have pieces from Diane Von Furstenberg, Roberto Cavalli, and Herve Leger. To get your dance on, Enigma Lounge is the hot spot, and for a relaxing meal on the water, there is no better place than Tikki Beach where the waves are literally crashing at your feet. Can I go back now?
