This is so sad. British fashion designer Alexander McQueen was found dead this morning in his London apartment of an apparent suicide. He was 40 years old and is survived by his 5 siblings along with his father, a London taxi driver. Known for throwing convention and practicality out the door, his designs could be described as eccentric and completely surreal. He was made the head designer of Givenchy in 1996, taking over from John Galliano, where he remained through 2001. Alexander won “British Designer of the Year” 4 times during his young life, and was also named by the CFDA as “International Designer of the Year.” His celebrity fans included Rihanna, Kate Moss, Jessica Alba, Mary J. Blige, Lady GaGa, and Naomi Campbell. He was said to have been devastated by the 2007 suicide of close friend and stylist Isabella Blow, and more recently his mother’s passing on February 2nd. Another young life lost. And such an unmistakable, authentic talent. RIP McQueen.
