BABY TALK: A CHAT WITH FASHION DESIGNER RACHEL PALLY

Recently, I had the pleasure of chatting with fashion designer, Rachel Pally, about the ups and downs of her pregnancy, bringing up her son and styling a baby bump at the launch of her new collection for A Pea in the Pod.

RCR: Do you have tips for the mom-to-be when it comes to styling herself?

RP: Yes. You don’t have to wear sweat pants. Don’t just wear leggings, because it takes just as long to throw on leggings and a t-shirt as it does to throw on a dress and a pair of sandals. And you look so much better, which makes you feel so much better, so that is my big tip. And you can find my new maternity line here at A Pea in the Pod!

RCR: So you’re all about showing off the baby bump right?

RP: I am because I don’t like the idea of someone being pregnant and I can’t tell. When I was pregnant, I was like, “Look at how pregnant I am.” And I liked how I looked. I felt really sexy and female. I was into it so I did show it off.

RCR: What was your pregnancy like?

RP: I hated the beginning so much it was horrible. I was nauseous all the time, lethargic and dumb. I couldn’t remember anything. I fell asleep on a conference call! I was too tired. And then it was great. It was just amazing and it got better and better the more I could feel him moving. I felt connected to him, and my husband and I got excited about the birth experience. It was just a miraculous time.

RCR: So your husband was really hands on?

RP: Yes, super hands on. He’s totally incredible.

RCR: Aww, that’s so amazing. So what was the first month like with baby?

RP: Oh my god, that’s the hardest thing in the world. The hardest thing in the world is having a new born. You’re like, “What the hell am I doing? What is this alien? How did it come out of my body? What am I supposed to do with it? I’m so tired.” I had a hard time with breast feeding, then we hit our stride and it wasn’t so hard. Then you have a routine and you’re so in love that it’s okay if you have to get up. And I almost liked the middle of the night feedings when it was just me and Theo and there was nothing else to do but just be there with him. It was so beautiful.

RCR: Any new Mom advice?

RP: I think that it’s important to cut yourself some slack because the whole thing is hard. It’s new and it’s a big life change. And make sure you have date night and have sex with your husband because you’ll like each other a whole lot more.

RCR: What milestones is your son having right now?

RP: He’s walking and he’s playing peek-a-boo and he just laughs all the time. And he blows you kisses and, oh my God, he’s the best thing in the whole world.

RCR: Did you go crazy with the fashions, like dressing him and buying him tons of stuff?

RP: Yeah. Now we have a baby line, so we started making him leggings. He wears like American apparel t-shirts and leggings. He has one pair of jeans.

RCR: Where’s your baby line carried?

RP: On RachelPally.com. Are you having a boy or girl?

RCR: A girl!

RP: Well I am so excited for you! And thank you so much!

RCR: Thank you!
